Spectrum is helping organizations where our employees are volunteering their time and talent. Our community-focused philanthropic program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants (SECG), allows employees to nominate a nonprofit in which they volunteer to be awarded one of our annual grants. Chris, Supervisor, Supply Chain, has been volunteering with the Genieve Shelter for 19 years and saw the opportunity to nominate the shelter for all that they do. “They are an exceptional organization providing safe housing for victims of domestic violence. I was honored when they were awarded with a grant from my first nomination.” Since then, Chris’ nominations have provided two additional grants for the Genieve Shelter totaling $18,500. We work and live in the communities we serve, which means investing in where we all call home. Our Spectrum Community Center Assist program focuses on improving the physical conditions of community centers in underserved rural and urban neighborhoods while providing job skills training and technology for the people who live there. Through our community center partnerships, our employees volunteer to renovate and improve classroom spaces and other areas at the centers, while the company provides technology and equipment including laptops, smartboards and furniture, to enhance participants’ learning experience. Mark, Construction Manager, grew up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin helping maintain the cabins and boats at his family’s 16-acre lakefront resort. Mark’s hometown is one of the many rural communities in the United States that does not have access to broadband. Now, he is part of our rural construction initiative, helping to transform life in his town and boost small businesses. Do you know a college student that would benefit from the Spectrum Scholars program? This is a two-year educational and mentorship initiative for underrepresented students with financial need. Individuals selected receive a $20,000 scholarship, a mentor and the opportunity for a paid internship at Spectrum. This #WomensHistoryMonth, we celebrate Michelle Kadlacek, VP of Enterprise Partner Program, and Mackenzie Scott, Marketing Analyst, two incredible women blazing trails in the technology and telecommunications industry. 

Sometimes, a gentle nudge is what we need to go out of our comfort zone and do something that benefits us. For Alex, one of our Maintenance Technicians, that nudge came from the top. Alex joined the company in 1999 in the installation department. Seven years later, he accepted a role as a Maintenance Technician, where he mentored and trained colleagues to help them advance their careers. Last year, Alex received a letter from company leaders outlining the self-progression opportunities available to him at Spectrum. While self-progression coursework wasn't Alex's preferred learning style, he recognized this was a chance for him to step out of his comfort zone and take advantage of the career development offered to him.
