Yesterday, Gov. Wes Moore signed into law a number of bills to support Maryland farmers – including our grassroots priority bill to mitigate crop damage from deer. MDFB supported bills signed yesterday include: ✅ SB367/HB481: Deer Management Programs for Crop Damage ✅ SB808: Supporting Farmers with Anaerobic Digestion Tech ✅ SB0589/HB0812: Funding for SMADC None of these legislative achievements could have been possible without the grassroots support of our members – just like you!

Safety is non-negotiable when it comes to ATV/UTV use on large farms and agribusinesses. Arm yourself with knowledge about the three pillars of ATV/UTV safety. Safe ATV/UTV operation means everyone knows and does what's legal, what's smart and what's right. #LetsChampionRiderSafety https://lnkd.in/e5RQQzX9

"Agriculture is a cornerstone of Maryland's economy, contributing over $8 billion annually and employing approximately 350 thousand Marylanders. However, recent challenges have emerged after the Key Bridge collapse temporarily closed the Port of Baltimore, throwing the agricultural community into a state of uncertainty."

"While much attention has rightly been given to the economic repercussions of the Port of Baltimore’s closure, there’s been a glaring omission in discussions — the profound impact on Maryland’s thriving agricultural sector," says Maryland Farm Bureau's own Belinda Burrier in Baltimore Banner. "The truth remains: If our farmers can’t make a living, Maryland’s local food supply chain is in jeopardy." https://lnkd.in/et7nQ65F

Without farms, you can’t have barbecue! 👨🌾 → 🔥🍖 Will, Mark, and Tommy from Farm BBQ get started at the crack of dawn, and sometimes the night prior, to begin smoking meats. A constant presence at Harford and Baltimore County farmers markets, they view their delicious barbecue as way to bring community together while supporting local agriculture. Liking to source their food from local farms, the Farm BBQ team recently became members of Maryland Farm Bureau because of our advocacy of farms statewide. The Farm Bureau isn’t just for farmers, if you want to see farms succeed in Maryland (…and barbecue for that matter), you should a become a member too! https://lnkd.in/eXrFbqP7 “We want people to experience this food and come away feeling the love that we feel for our community and local farms,” says Will of Farm BBQ in Fallston #MemberSpotlight

The Maryland Department of Agriculture recently issued an order restricting the movement of dairy cattle into the state from states with confirmed High Path Avian Influenza (HPAI) cases in dairy herds. So far there have been no detections of HPAI in cattle in Maryland, but farmers are encouraged to continue practicing strong biosecurity measures. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eCrHauPy

Not even a solar eclipse can stop us from advocating on behalf of Maryland farmers in Annapolis. Today marks “Sine Die,” which is the last day of legislative session and the busiest day on the floor. Any bill that is not passed by midnight is considered dead and unable to pass until next year. Stay tuned!
