Spectrum is helping organizations where our employees are volunteering their time and talent. Our community-focused philanthropic program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants (SECG), allows employees to nominate a nonprofit in which they volunteer to be awarded one of our annual grants. Chris, Supervisor, Supply Chain, has been volunteering with the Genieve Shelter for 19 years and saw the opportunity to nominate the shelter for all that they do. “They are an exceptional organization providing safe housing for victims of domestic violence. I was honored when they were awarded with a grant from my first nomination.” Since then, Chris’ nominations have provided two additional grants for the Genieve Shelter totaling $18,500. Sometimes, a gentle nudge is what we need to go out of our comfort zone and do something that benefits us. For Alex, one of our Maintenance Technicians, that nudge came from the top. Alex joined the company in 1999 in the installation department. Seven years later, he accepted a role as a Maintenance Technician, where he mentored and trained colleagues to help them advance their careers. Last year, Alex received a letter from company leaders outlining the self-progression opportunities available to him at Spectrum. While self-progression coursework wasn't Alex's preferred learning style, he recognized this was a chance for him to step out of his comfort zone and take advantage of the career development offered to him.
