This week's Nonprofit Coffee Chat was another fun and informative gathering where experiences were shared, lessons discussed, and advice was given. Much of our organic discussion was around relationships -- relationships with parents of children served, the Executive Director/Board relationship, and relationships between team members who work in silos. Organizational culture plays a significant role in relationships because of its impact on the attitudes and behaviors of the people in the organization. Using tools and strategies that support a culture where people the organization feel motivated, productive, and satisfied are invaluable to nonprofit success. Here are a few tools and strategies we discussed: • Board Member Self Assessment • A Feedback Loop (for continuous improvement) • Team Building activities More nuggets that were shared included: • Proverbs 4:7 - Get wisdom, get understanding. • Coach Dawn Staley's approach to transforming teams Here's an article worth reading: https://lnkd.in/g2R4KCjk #nonprofit #nonprofits #nonprofitcoffeechat #tuesdaymornings #organizationalculture #relationships #boardofdirectors #accountability #standards #team

Fundraising success begins with a plan -- clear goals, a detailed budget, and effective communications strategies for both before and after you receive each donation. I recently learned from a client for whom I develop a sponsorship package and solicitation letter for an upcoming event who shared with a couple of weeks they had already secured thousands of dollars in new sponsor support! Tip: Always follow up after sending a donation request. #nonprofit #nonprofits #fundraising #fundraisingplan #sponsorships #resources #plan #thewordwomanllc

ALERT! It is very easy for your nonprofit's tax-exempt status to be revoked! In fact, it is so easy that often it isn't until after the IRS revokes it that the IRS sends a notification. All it takes is failure to submit the required IRS form 990 consecutively for three years in a row, and poof 💨 your tax-exempt status is gone! And if the tax-exempt status is revoked, the nonprofit is automatically no longer a charity and can no longer legally solicit donations. So, make sure your nonprofit's tax-exempt status is in tact. Use the link below to search your organization and confirm it is up-to-date on all annual filings: https://lnkd.in/ecXdDF7 If any of the filings are missing, file them ASAP! If your status is revoked, you will have to reapply (paying another filing fee). Feel free to us for assistance.

With summer internship season fast approaching, here's a quick reminder that interns are NOT "free labor". They are compensated in the skills, knowledge and experience they gain and/or in monetary compensation. There are specific rules and regulations to help your organization determine how to compensate your interns. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has adopted the “primary beneficiary test” to determine whether a worker is an employee (who must be paid in accordance with federal wage and hour law) or can be classified as an unpaid intern (a non-employee who is exempt from federal wage and hour law). March is National Women's History Month. The month is set aside to honor women's contributions in American history. Our team honors and celebrates not only those women whose stories have been captured in textbooks and whose names are widely known, but we also honor and celebrate those whose names are unknown but whose contributions are just as significant. ❤️ #womenrock #womenshistorymonth #makeadifference

This past weekend our team traveled to Centreville, MD on the Eastern Shore to present an interactive, in-person "The Board & Fundraising" training for the Queen Anne's County Arts Council board of directors. We had a great time with the very engaged group of leaders, and we learned that a visit to the Queens Anne's County Centre for the Arts for their exhibits and programs is well worth the drive. ☺️
